Ho‘omau Identity

An identity for the UH Cancer Center’s initiative, promoting their clinical trials, which will give 20 percent more clinical trials to people living with cancer by 2025. This identity is called “Ho‘omau” which in Hawaiian means to persevere, persist, and to renew one’s spirit.

The logo’s red and yellow colors are inspired by Hawaiian mahiole helmets which were used in battle for spiritual protection, while also being representative of a sunset, a symbol of light, happiness, virtue, and new beginnings.

In Hawaiian culture, the ocean/water is a lifeline for the people, while the ocean is also symbolic of infiniteness, as seen in the wave motif.
